How to install
a mezuzah
A mezuzah is fixed to the right-hand doorpost as you enter the house or the room. Here are the five traditional steps, from choosing the spot to reciting the blessing.
Choose the spot
Place the mezuzah on the right-hand side as you enter, in the upper third of the doorpost — neither at the very top nor halfway down.
Check the orientation
The top of the case must point upwards. Sephardic custom: vertical. Ashkenazi custom: tilted slightly towards the inside of the room.
Position the scroll
The word שׁדי on the scroll must face the same way as the ש engraved on the case, so that the sacred text keeps its proper orientation.
Fix it firmly
Screws, high-performance adhesive or whatever suits the surface. The mezuzah must not move. The large size has two keyhole fixings.
Recite the blessing
Before fixing it for good, recite the berakhah (below), then set the mezuzah on the doorpost.
Sacred orientation
The Shin on the case and the Shin on the scroll must point the same way.
The ש on the front of the Kadoch Design mezuzah is not decorative: it shows which way the scroll inside should sit. When you insert the scroll, make sure its ש lines up with the one on the case — that alignment is what makes the installation faithful to tradition.

The blessing
בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה ה' אֱלֹהֵינוּ מֶלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם, אֲשֶׁר קִדְּשָׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתָיו וְצִוָּנוּ לִקְבֹּעַ מְזוּזָה
“Barukh Atah Ado-nai, Elo-heinu Melekh ha'olam, asher kideshanu bemitzvotav vetzivanu likboa mezuzah.”
Where not to place a mezuzah
A mezuzah is not placed on the door of a toilet, a bathroom, or any room incompatible with the holiness of the scroll.
The kosher scroll
The case protects — it is the kosher scroll, handwritten by a qualified sofer, that gives the mezuzah its religious value. Available as an option (+€15) or supplied separately.
